Story

photoBorn in Iran, and raised in Sweden, Mia Berglund opened her first shop in 1994 in Copenhagen, Denmark. soon to be followed by a second location in Sweden.
In 1998, following the success of her European shops, Mia opened her boutique Flying A in New York City, bringing a Swedish casual luxury to the US.

In the process of managing Flying A Mia was required to do a lot of traveling, sparking her interest in textile design. As such, Sophia Costas was born.

It was her work with Sophia Costas and her globe-trotting paired with a passion for Yoga that led to the founding of the NGO, the Azahar Foundation.
Azahar was c0-founded  with partner Estelle Eishenberger in Cambodia, and it mentors non-violent conflict resolution to children through Yoga education.

ALL Sophia Costas and Berglund products are FAIR TRADE, HAND-CRAFTED, and SUSTAINABLE.

Our Practices

  • The artistic traditions behind these products stem from indigenous cultures which value the earth’s resources and also value the wisdom inherent in these traditions.
  • We help and support women in Nepal who are homeless and come from small villages to try to find a living. We support the NGO that trains them at their own pace, helping them often become the sole breadwinner for their children and families.

Our Charitable Cause

Mia Berglund works closely with the nonprofit, the Azahar Foundation to improve cross-cultural communication and non-violent conflict resolution through Arts & Yoga education.

We are proud to donate regularly, and believe that education is the key to world peace and justice.
